Approaches

Communication is the key

Language unlocks cross-cultural understanding. The goal of a world language classroom is to unlock the potential of each learner so that everyone can be an active citizen of the global community.

Grammar as a tool

Learning grammar is always stressful, pushing many learners away from studying a language. While it is important to understand grammatical rules, they should not be the sole focus of a language class. Grammar should aid comprehension, not hinder motivation and learning.

Language for ALL

Everyone should be able to take part in the world language community. The idea that some individuals are better at learning languages than others is not true. Instead, I believe everyone can achieve the necessary competency. World language instructors can offer many different tools to their learners. Learning languages using authentic local media is the best approach. However, there are spaces for traditional methods. By employing different approaches, all students will have a shot at mastery of the language.
